The Yoga Hand Gesture For Inner Peace
Yoga Mudras Series: 4. Jnana Mudra
Jnana Mudra looks very similar to Chin Mudra (which we looked at earlier here), except the palm faces down.
Jnana Mudra is mainly used during meditation practice. In Sanskrit, Jnana can be translated to knowledge or wisdom.
HOW TO: In a seated position, bring the tip of the thumb and the tip of the index finger to touch. Relax the other fingers.
Tips are facing down and the insides of the wrists are resting on the knees.
BENEFITS: Jnana Mudra invites a feeling of grounding and inner peace.
DID YOU KNOW: Some people meditate with one hand in Chin Mudra and one hand in Jnana Mudra: this allows the practitioner to receive energy from the palm facing up whilst the palm facing down acts to balance that energy and prevent it from becoming overpowering.
Stay tuned for the rest of this series!
